A son is a son….

October 28, 2015

“A son is a son till he takes him a wife, a daughter is a daughter all of her life” author unknown

The above quote used to worry me.  I have three sons.  In the wee hours of the morning while nursing one of the boys, I’d think–what if he marries someone I don’t like or worse, what if she hates me.  The worry would fade into the background only to surface at the oddest times.

Last weekend, my oldest son was married to a wonderful woman who loves him as deeply as he loves her.  During all the showers, parties, preparations never once did I remember or worry about that old saying.  Why?  Because over the six years they have been dating, I have gotten to know Sarah and come to love her very much.  I did tear up a bit as she came down the aisle, but they were tears of happiness from seeing the love and joy on Edward’s face as he watched her walk towards him.  Her family is great and has welcomed my son into their midst as we have welcomed Sarah.  It was a weekend of laughter, love and joy and I couldn’t be happier for them.DSC_0224

I truly have not lost a son, but gained a daughter.  So phooey on that old saying.

Now, one down….but no pressure guys.  You have plenty of time.
